Under the wave of Kanagawa

Under the wave of Kanagawa coloured by Charlie

Under the wave of Kanagawa made by (kanagawa oki nami ura)

I chose to change the blue colours to make them darker so you get the feel of a stormy day and the volcano is different as well to match the dark colours.

Tech Masks

The last two weeks for sewing tech we have been creating our own masks with our own material. My material had swimming trout on it. Although it was quite big for me they were fun to make. Hand sewing on the elastic was definitly the toughest part to put around your ears.
Here they are!

Scissor power

Today in sewing tech with Anne we were preparing to go on camp to Mt Ruapehu by making fluro hats to wear on the ski field.  We make fluro hats so our teachers can see which ones we are on the mountain. We started by marking out the measurments for the hats with a warm material, then released the power of scissors. We cut out about 50 of them and then went on to the fluro colours like pink orange and yellow. We will sew the hats together next week!

Now we have to try and do double dutch.the double dutch is a lot harder because you have to jump in, you can't just start in the middle.

Pinwheel scones

Today is the first day back at school and its a Wednesday. That's our normal Tech day so I thought I could do Tech at home. I carefully followed the steps in the method and they came out really well. We all enjoyed them with our lunch!

Making a hut

Last week my brother, sister and I went onto our farm in a paddock called 'Top Terrace'. We made a hut and then made a fire outside. There was also a stag roaring next to us but we couldn't see him.
Have you ever made a hut out on your farm?

tech

This week at cooking tech we had to do an invention test just like on Master Chef
where you get given anonymous ingredients and you have to make something
with those ingredients only! Our two mystery ingredients were eggs and apples!
I made apple and cinnamon pancakes with apple maple syrup and brown sugar topping!
They were delicious.

Ice cream

This week 3 in Tech we were going to make Ice Cream! We had to create a flavour that we liked and that we could get the ingredients for. One ingredient needed to be fresh. I made ambrosia ice cream with berries that I picked at my home. We added marshmallows and chocolate chips. We made a poster using 'poster my wall' to advertise our ice cream. This was my first time using it
and it was fun to make a poster.

Room ones sun flowers

This year the room one class planted some cool tall sunflowers so we decided to recreate them on paper with paint. We also write some creative poems about them. Here is my one.

Sunflowers, big, tall and bold.
Standing staunch like a line of soldiers against the fence.
Looking like mini suns standing on top of a stem.
Headlights beaming rays of light.
Some bending down, hiding there faces,
from the giant leader,
High up in the sky.

ME!

Kia Ora I am Charlie, I am a year 8 student at Matawai school an hour out of Gisborne. I live on a farm with my Mum and Dad with two siblings. We have a cat, a pet spaniel and 12 working dogs.

At school I love writing about things on the farm and hunting. I enjoy reading books about adventures, hunting, and war stories. My challenges are maths trying to keep on learning new hard stuff. My goal this year is to run at the aims Games in Tauranga and improve time and place from last year.

I am looking forward to playing my favourite sport rugby, I play for Ngatapa in the under 13's team. I am inspired by Ryan Crotty and George Bridge. I also love playing cricket and watching the Black Caps.
